Sarcelles Urban Intervention
Role: Ideation/Art Direction, Typography
This workshop was conducted under the supervision of Afrouz Razavi, Ruedi Baur and Vera Baur as part of the Civic City project. Our brief was to create a project that valorized diversity, multilingualism and multiculturalism. We also had to ensure that our project involved interaction with the community in the Sarcelles.
Below is the area that we were supposed to be working around. We found it very vast and almost imposing. We wanted to add a touch of comfort and shelter, almost like an urban living room.

We visited a local Turkish shop nearby to buy some tea and immediately the thought of a tea corner struck! Tea is a drink that holds great importance in most societies, everyone has their ways of consuming the beverage and their rituals around it. We thought what better way to help build a connection with the community than to share a cup of tea?
We decided to create a signage system using two planks of wood and create a separate structure with wood and frames. We stencilled the word tea in different languages on both these structures, as well as creating carpet patterns in geometric shapes, to give the idea of the urban living room.
